How to delete your data

In the game: open Settings → Your data and choices → Account and data → Delete my data and confirm. It needs an internet connection and takes effect at once.

Without the game (for example after uninstalling): write to support@lucidmaze.co from any address and say which device or Play Games name you played with. We delete the data within 30 days and confirm by email.

What is deleted: your identifier and player record, sessions, battle records, your campaign and its earlier saves, your ranking results and replays, your display name, your achievements held by us, and the link to your Play Games profile.

What is kept: the record of a purchase, with nothing attached that says who made it, for accounting and refunds; reports you made that a moderator has already decided, with you removed as the reporter; and your orders in co-op rooms that another player hosted, until that player deletes their data. Details are under Deleting your data below.

Who we are

Rookie Fodder is published by LucidMaze ("we"). Contact: support@lucidmaze.co.

The short version

The game needs no sign-up and shows no adverts. Single player works without a connection and sends nothing while offline. Three switches in the game decide what is sent to our server when you are online, and each does what its label says and nothing more:

When a switch is off, the game does not send that kind of data at all, and anything that was waiting to be sent is thrown away. The rest of this page says exactly what each one covers, what is sent whatever the switches say and why, and how to delete everything.

What is sent whatever the switches say, and why

The game cannot work online without these. They are not statistics and we do not treat them as such.

DataWhenWhy
The game's platform (Android, Steam, Mac) and version numberEvery time the game starts while onlineTo fetch the published settings: whether online play is paused for maintenance, whether a newer version is needed, the balance settings, and whether the paid unlock applies. No identifier is sent with this request.
A random identifier created on your device, and the platformThe first time something you do needs our server (see below); at every start if "Share play statistics" is onOur server answers only to a session, and a session belongs to an identifier. The identifier is a random number made by the game on first launch. It is not your name, your phone's identifier or your advertising identifier, and "Delete my data" replaces it.
CountryWhenever a session startsOur server works it out from your internet address at that moment and keeps the two-letter country code with your player record and the session. The address itself is not stored. This happens even when "Share play statistics" is off, because it is done by the server and not sent by the game; the server also keeps when your identifier was first and last seen.
Whether this device has the full campaignOn Android, every time the game starts while onlineSo a paid player is never locked out. It carries nothing but the session.

With "Share play statistics" off, a session carries the identifier and the platform and nothing else about your device. (Our server insists on a control type for every session, so the game sends the fixed word "mouse" whatever you play with.) With every switch off, a desktop copy of the game sends only the first row of this table until you open the rankings, play co-op or use one of the features further down.

What each switch covers

Share play statistics

On by default. While it is on, the game sends:

DataWhenWhy
Device model, game version, device language, control type (touch or mouse)Every time the game startsTo fix problems and to see which devices and versions are in use
An install keyEvery time the game startsTo tell a reinstall from a new player. It is a one-way SHA-256 hash of the identifier Android gives this game on your device (on a computer, of the identifier Unity gives the machine). The identifier itself never leaves the device and the hash cannot be turned back into it. Our server also uses it so that several reports of a name from one install count as one.
What happens in each single-player battle: mission, phase and map, how long it took, the result, how many soldiers and enemies were alive, and where and how each soldier fellWhile you play, every few secondsTo balance the difficulty
The names and ranks of the soldiers in your squadAt the start of each battle, and with each deathThey are part of the game record. Soldiers are named by the game; you cannot type names for them.

Off: none of this is sent. A battle already being reported is no longer followed, and the next session says nothing about your device. The next time a session starts, our server blanks the device model, version and language on your player record. The records of earlier sessions and battles keep what they said until you delete your data.

Cloud save

On by default. While it is on, the game sends:

DataWhenWhy
Your saved campaign: your soldiers with their names and ranks, the fallen, your progress and difficultyWhenever the campaign is saved (before and after each battle, and when you leave the game)So you can recover it after reinstalling or move to another device. Our server keeps the current save and the ten before it.
The achievements you have earnedWhen the game starts, after battles and when you open AchievementsSo they follow you to another device

Off: neither is sent again, the game does not ask our server for them, and your achievements are kept on the device only. What our server already holds stays there until you delete your data.

Two things use the same storage because you asked for them, whatever this switch says: "Move my campaign to another device" uploads your campaign once so the other device can fetch it with the code, and "I have a code from my other device" makes our server keep a copy of the campaign you fetched.

Take part in the rankings

For a new player this is on. If you played before this switch existed, it started where your "Share play statistics" switch stood, because replays used to follow that switch; and if you had taken yourself off the boards with the earlier "Show me on the rankings" switch, the game switches this one off the first time you open the rankings, and tells you there that you are not taking part. The same happens if you switch it off on another device signed in to the same Play Games account. While it is on, the game sends:

DataWhenWhy
A replay of each single-player campaign battle you finish, won or lost: the orders you gave, the ranks of the soldiers you sent (not their names), the map and game settings it was fought with, the game version, your control type (touch, mouse or controller), and the result and scoreAfter the battle; if you are offline it waits on your device (at most 50 battles) and is sent laterSo our server can play the battle again and check the result. Only a result the server has reproduced goes on a board. The server notes the country the replay was sent from.
The numbers of your battles that are still being checkedEvery few seconds to a minute while a menu is open, until each is settledTo tell you where you placed

When our server verifies a replay it also works out which achievements that battle earned and keeps them with your record, even if "Cloud save" is off.

Off: no battle is recorded for the rankings, nothing is sent or asked about, the battles waiting on your device are deleted from it, and our server is told to take your earlier results off every board. The results themselves stay on our server, unseen, until you delete your data or switch back on. If the server cannot be reached at that moment the game says so; your device has stopped all the same, and the server is told the next time you open the rankings while online.

Things that are sent only when you use them

What you doWhat is sentWhat our server keeps
Open the rankingsWhich board you want to read. This works whether or not you take part.Nothing new
Choose a display nameThe nameThe name, until you change or remove it, or delete your data
Play co-opA room name for you (your Steam name on the desktop version, otherwise "Rookie" and two digits made up by the game; you do not type one), and your orders turn by turn. If you host: the map, the game settings and the soldiers' names for that battle. The room, who sat in it under which name, and the orders. A room closes after three hours or ten idle minutes. Its record is kept until the player who hosted it deletes their data.
Move your campaign with a codeYour campaign; the six-character code lasts 15 minutesAs under "Cloud save"
Sign in with Play Games (Android)A short-lived session reference from Google Play Games, and your Play Games name as your device shows it. Our server asks Google for the random token we stored for that Play Games player, or stores one. The game tries this quietly at each start once you have signed in, and never again after "Delete my data" until you ask. Google shows no permission sheet for this and we get no access to anything in your Google account. (Versions before 0.11.2 used a one-time sign-in code instead, and our server then also learned your Play Games player ID.)A random token that stands for your Play Games profile, and your Play Games name. We never receive your Google email address or password.
Buy or restore the full campaign (Android)Google's purchase tokenA record of the purchase: the token, Google's order number, the product, the time, the country Google reports, and whether it was refunded. We never see your card or other payment details; Google Play takes the payment.
Report a nameWhich player (a board entry, or a seat in your co-op room), one of four reasons, and a note if you write one (200 characters at most)See "Reports" below
Delete my dataThe requestSee "Deleting your data" below

Ranking boards are public

The game has ranking boards for each mission phase and for the campaign. Everyone who plays can read them. An entry shows your display name (or "Rookie" and a number if you have chosen none), your country, your score, how many soldiers you brought home, how long the battle took and your control type (touch, mouse or controller). It never shows the names of your soldiers, your device, or your Play Games account. The boards also have a view of your own country and a view of the players you have shared a co-op room with.

A battle is ranked only after our server has replayed it. We also look at replays for signs of results that were not played by hand, and we may hide such a result, or a player, from the boards. Hiding deletes nothing.

Display names. A name is checked by an automatic filter when you type it and may be removed by us under the community rules (https://rockie-dash.lucidmaze.co/rules.html), which the game links to where you type the name. If several players report your name, everyone else sees "Rookie" and a number in its place until a person at LucidMaze has looked; the game tells you this where it shows your own name, and you may change the name meanwhile.

Reports

You can report another player's name from their row on a board or from their seat in a co-op room. A report is sent only when you confirm it, whatever the three switches say. We keep: which player and account made the report, whose name it was about, the name exactly as it read at that moment, the reason you picked, your note, and for a co-op name the room and seat; later, what a moderator decided and when. The player you reported is not told who reported them. A person reads every report; we do not promise a reply or tell you the outcome.

Reporting a name also hides it from you. So does "Hide this player". That list of hidden players is kept only on your device, is sent to nobody, and can be undone in Ranking settings → Hidden players. A player hidden from a co-op room is hidden only until you close the game.

Deleting your data

Settings → Your data and choices → Account and data → Delete my data. It needs a connection; if our server cannot be reached nothing is deleted and the game says so.

It removes from our server: your identifier and player record, every session, the record of your battles and where soldiers fell, your campaign and its earlier saves, transfer codes, the co-op rooms you hosted with their orders, every battle replay, your place on every board, your display name, your achievements, every report made about your names and every name you were refused, and the reports you made that nobody has decided yet. If the device is linked to a Play Games account, the link, the account's campaign and every other device linked to it go too.

It removes from your device: your campaign, the identifier, your achievements, battles waiting to be sent, your co-op room name and your list of hidden players. The three switches stay as you left them. If you keep playing, the game starts again as a new player with a new random identifier, and stays signed out of Play Games until you choose to sign in.

It does not remove:
